A 37-year-old French national suspected of murdering his Norwegian partner and kidnapping their one-year-old son was arrested in southern Poland, local police said Monday.

"Interpol informed us that this man could transit through southern Poland," Krakow city police spokeswoman Katarzyna Cislo told AFP, but was unable to provide further information on the suspect.

The suspect was detained "in front of a pub at 3 am (0100 GMT) in front of a pub in Rabka (southern Poland). Local police officers proceeded with his arrest," she said.

The French national was being held in police custody in Nowy Targ, southern Poland, on Monday pending his possible extradition. The child, found by police in the back seat of the car, was placed in a local hospital, Cislo said.
