French minister: Put metal detector gates in all railway stations after attacks
A senior French government minister said Tuesday she wanted security gates to be installed at all railway stations in France in the wake of the attacks on Paris.
"I asked SNCF (the French railway company) to look into putting into place these measures so that there are the same type of checks as there are for getting on to planes," said Segolene Royal, who is ecology minister but whose portfolio also includes transport.
"It is done for international trains and I think it could also be done for trains in France," she said.
All passengers who take Eurostar cross-Channel trains between London and Paris have to pass through similar security as at airports.
The attackers who killed 129 people in Paris appear to have used cars, at least two of which were hired in Belgium.
