French men charged with paedophile offences in Cambodia
A Cambodian court charged two French men Sunday with soliciting a child prostitute and producing child pornographyPhnom Penh - A Cambodian court charged two French men Sunday with soliciting a child prostitute and producing child pornography, a prosecutor said.
The charges were laid against Michel Jean Raymond Charlot, 62, and 60-year-old Claude Jean-Pierre Demeret, Phnom Penh municipal court prosecutor Kry Sok Y said.
Charlot was arrested after he allegedly solicited a 16-year-old girl in Phnom Penh and took her back to his guesthouse room.
Claude Jean-Pierre Demeret was arrested later after the girl told police about him, said Keo Thea, deputy chief of the municipality's anti-human trafficking police.
"Both of them were charged after police found a lot of pictures and videos they made while having sex with children in Thailand and Cambodia," said Kry Sok Y.
"We have handed them to the investigating judges to question them more," he added.
Police said they found evidence of children's underwear, toys and sex toys, as well as the pictures and videos.
Cambodia has struggled to shed its reputation as a haven for paedophiles, putting dozens of foreigners in jail for child sex crimes or deporting them to face trial in their home countries since 2003.
