MANILA, May 18 (AFP) - Philippine police arrested a Frenchman after marijuana leaves were found in his possession just before he left for an island resort, the anti-drug task force said Tuesday.

Tourist Pascal Arnaud, 33, was arrested Sunday by police at the hangar of a small charter airline after marijuana was found in a metal box hidden inside his camera bag, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a statement.

Charges of illegal drug possession are being filed against him, the statement said without giving the exact amount of marijuana found in Arnaud's possession.

Philippine drug laws provide for capital punishment for possession of as little as 500 grams of marijuana.
