French jet maker's profit soars in 2004

PARIS, Feb 17 (AFP) - The French aircraft engine maker Snecma reported a net profit Thursday of EUR 234 million (USD 304 million) in 2004, an increase of 28.6 percent from the previous year.

PARIS, Feb 17 (AFP) - The French aircraft engine maker Snecma reported a net profit Thursday of EUR 234 million (USD 304 million) in 2004, an increase of 28.6 percent from the previous year.

Operating profit rose 7.3 percent to EUR 511 million on sales of 6.812 billion an increase of 5.9 percent, the group said in a statement.

Operating margin edged up to 7.5 percent from 7.4 percent in 2003.

Snecma said that orders, including those for maintenance and repairs, reached EUR 7.65 billion last year, a leap of 23 percent from the 2003 figure of EUR 6.240 billion.

The company's order book as of December 31 stood at EUR 13.8 billion, a gain of 9.5 percent on the year.
