French inflation at 2.2 pct in September

PARIS, Oct 13 (AFP) - French consumer price inflation grew 0.2 percent in September from the figure for the previous month, bringing the increase over 12 months to 2.2 percent, preliminary figures from the Insee statistics institute showed.

PARIS, Oct 13 (AFP) - French consumer price inflation grew 0.2 percent in September from the figure for the previous month, bringing the increase over 12 months to 2.2 percent, preliminary figures from the Insee statistics institute showed.  

In August, inflation grew 0.3 percent from the previous month and 2.4 percent over one year.   Economists had expected a 0.2-percent monthly increase in September and a  2.3 percent rise over the year.  

Food and tobacco prices alone increased in September 0.1 percent over the month, manufactured goods were up 0.7 percent and services was 0.2 percent lower.   Underlying core inflation, which excludes products with either regulated or highly-volatile prices, was flat in September, after having risen 0.4 percent in August.  

The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), calculated to allow comparison with other EU members was up 0.2 percent on a monthly basis and rose 2.2 percent over the year.
