French industrial sales rise by 2.4 pct

PARIS, Dec 3 (AFP) - French industrial sales, excluding the food and energy sectors, rose 2.4 percent in value in September after declining 3.1 percent in August, the national statistics institute INSEE reported Friday.

PARIS, Dec 3 (AFP) - French industrial sales, excluding the food and energy sectors, rose 2.4 percent in value in September after declining 3.1 percent in August, the national statistics institute INSEE reported Friday.

Overseas sales, after falling 4.6 percent in August, edged up 0.2 percent in September. Over the third quarter foreign sales dipped 0.3 percent from the second quarter but were up 2.6 percent from the same period of 2003.

Including food and energy, French industrial sales gained 2.1 percent in September and were up 0.3 percent over the three previous months.

In another report Friday, INSEE said the volume of retail sales in France rose 0.2 percent in the third quarter from the second.
