French industrial output flat in August: official data

French industrial growth was flat in August compared with activity in July when it rose 0.8 percent, official figures showed on Monday.

The manufacturing sector alone, which excludes construction and mining, was also flat in August, following a rise of 1.2 percent in July, the official statistics institute INSEE said.

Analysts said the data reflected the overall slowing of the economy to the extent that the government's 2010 growth forecast of 2.1 percent appears increasingly unlikely to be met.
