French industrial output was down 0.3 percent in April, a month after it bounced up 1.3 percent, the state statistics agency said Thursday.

Manufacturing however was still climbing, posting a 0.4 percent increase in April after a 1.2 percent boost in March, according to INSEE.

French finance ministry officials said industrial production was making a comeback, and had regained over the past 12 months half of the losses incurred during last year's global downturn.
