French industrial orders rose by 0.8 percent in August from the level in July when they had jumped by 2.6 percent according to revised figures, the INSEE statistical agency said on Wednesday.

Orders for exports fell by 1.5 percent in August it added.

On a three-month basis industrial orders had climbed by 2.8 percent against the previous period. Orders for exports were up 2.8 percent during this period.

The rate at which orders are taken for industry, and the trend of orders for exports, are leading indicators of underlying trends in the economy.

The French government, facing up to widespread strikes, demonstrations and disruptions of fuel supplies in opposition to a proposed pension reform, has warned that the disruption, if continued for long, could damage the economy.
