French industrial orders drop 3.1%

French industrial orders fell 3.1 percent in September but still rose by 1.3 percent over the third quarter, the INSEE statistics institute said Friday.

Industrial orders from abroad also fell, INSEE added in a statement, dropping by 2.1 percent compared with August.

The automotive sector was the worst hit, with orders dropping by 6.9 percent, with the paper sector down 6.2 percent.

Nevertheless orders still rose 1.3 percent in the July-September period compared with the previous quarter, with orders from abroad up 3.0 percent.
