French filmmaker freed on bail in Bangladesh

DHAKA, April 21 (AFP) - Bangladeshi police have charged a French documentary filmmaker with a border offence and released him on bail following his arrest last week, officials said Thursday.

DHAKA, April 21 (AFP) - Bangladeshi police have charged a French documentary filmmaker with a border offence and released him on bail following his arrest last week, officials said Thursday.

Arnaud Mandagaran, the maker of a documentary film, "India: Turmoils of the Century", was arrested on April 15 after crossing into Bangladesh's Satkhira district from West Bengal in northeastern India.

"Mr Mandagaran has been charged with a border offence and released on bail. At present no date has been set for court proceedings to start," Satkhira police chief Abdur Rahim told AFP by telephone

Mandagaran came to Bangladesh from France with a legal visa but crossed into India without a legal document and then returned to Bangladesh.
