PARIS, Jan 3 (AFP) - French charities and non-governmental organisations helping in parts of Asia hit by the tsunamis have received more than EUR 35 million (USD 47 million) from the public, according to a tally compiled by AFP.

The donations, many of which were made by Internet, had more than tripled over the weekend, the same associations and organisations involved said.

The French Red Cross said it had received the lion's share of the money, EUR 20 million.

It added that the money did not include donations given by French companies.
