PARIS, June 17 (AFP) - France's current account showed a provisional, seasonally-adjusted surplus of EUR 203 million (USD 244 million) in April compared with a revised deficit of EUR 172 million in March, the finance ministry said Thursday.

Raw figures showed a deficit of EUR 4.6 billion, roughly the same level as in April 2003.

The balance of payments current account measures all categories of current flows of money in and out of a country.

The breakdown of the figures provides insights into how the economic environment is affecting trade and investment behaviour, and the net totals are vital to long-term national finances.

Trade in goods was balanced, following a surplus of EUR 400 million in March.

Exports grew by 1.7 percent and imports by 3.3 percent according to seasonally-corrected data.

Earnings posted a slight deficit of EUR 200 million, while financial movements showed a net inflow of EUR 2.1 billion.
