French consumers cheer up one point

PARIS, Feb 28, 2007 (AFP) - French consumer confidence improved in February for the second month running an official index showed on Wednesday.

The National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies said the index was minus 23, up one point from January and two on December.

Analyst Alexander Law of market research company Xerfi, said the results reflected "neither the blues, nor euphoria" on consumers' sense of financial wellbeing.

However, he added that with presidential elections due in April occupying the thoughts of many, that it was hard to predict too far into the future.

Meanwhile, sentiment about unemployment which remained stable at 8.6 percent in January continued to improve for the second month in a row.
