French consumer spending dips in March: data
French consumer spending on manufactured goods dipped by 0.7 percent on March, although it still rose by 1.2 percent in the first quarter of the year, the INSEE national statistics agency said Thursday.
Automobiles had a major impact on the figure, dropping 1.6 percent, as deliveries waned of cars ordered at the end of government purchase incentives in December 2010.
INSEE reported on Wednesday that French consumer confidence held steady in April but remains well below its long-term average, with inflation and jobs prime concerns.
