PARIS, May 13 (AFP) - French consumer prices rose 0.2 percent in April compared with the month before, and were up 1.8 percent in the 12-month period, pushed by higher energy costs, the French statistics office Insee said Friday.

Inflation slowed in April following a monthly pickup of 0.5 percent in February and 0.6 percent in March.

Last month, the 1.8 percent hike in energy costs was offset by lower prices for fresh produce and services such as transportation and communication.

The inflation rate was slightly lower than analysts' expectations of 0.3 percent in the month, and 1.9 percent in the year.
