TOULON, France, Oct 29 (AFP) - Police were Friday combing canals and waterways in southern France for a 13-year-old boy who was sucked down a stormwater drain during heavy rain overnight.

The boy, who had raced outside to help motorists whose cars were blocked under a railway bridge, was swept into the drain which feeds into an outlet pipe of around a hundred metres (yards), police said.

The incident occurred in the village of Carnoules, near Toulon. Thirty officers, including several divers, were conducting the search.
