French backpacker charged with murder in Australia
A young Frenchman backpacking around Australia has been charged with murder over the stabbing death of another man in a pub on Christmas Day, police said Tuesday.
Police had initially charged the 22-year-old with causing grievous bodily harm but later changed it to murder.
"The charge has been upgraded to murder," a spokesman for Western Australia police said Tuesday.
The charge relates to the death of Kristopher Dixon, 32, who died at about 2:00 am on Christmas morning in the remote Western Australian tourist town of Broome.
The Frenchman, who police have not named, is due to appear in court later Tuesday.
