French auto sales firm 3.2%, foreign makes surge: trade data

French auto sales rose by 3.2 percent in August on a 12-month basis to total 108,530 vehicles, trade data showed on Thursday.

Overall sales by French carmakers fell by 2.2 percent and sales by foreign brands surged by 10.5 percent.

The CCFA trade federation said that on the basis of unadjusted figures, sales by the French Peugeot Citroen PSA group fell by 3.0 percent, dragged down by a 6.1-percent fall at Peugeot.

Sales by Citroen firmed by 1.0 percent.

The French Renault group showed a fall of 1.4 percent owing to a 22.0-percent drop in sales by its low-cost brand Dacia. Sales by the Renault brand rose by 4.8 percent.
