BREST, France, Jan 6 (AFP) - French actress Beatrice Dalle, who played the sensual and impulsive lead in the 1986 film "Betty Blue", has married an inmate in a discreet ceremony held in a Brittany prison, officials said.

Forty-year-old Dalle - whose real name is Beatrice Cabarrou - wed an unidentified convict in the Hermitage prison in Brest, the western French town where she was born, a local mayor, Renee Milin, told AFP.

Hers was one of two marriages held Monday in the prison's visitor room, Milin said, adding that Dalle was emotional and acted like a normal bride, even filling out the necessary papers at the town hall herself.

Dalle continues to land film and television roles, but has failed to match the attention given her debut performance in "Betty Blue", in which she plays a beautiful and unpredictable woman who descends into insanity.

She is no stranger to the other side of the law herself, having been arrested in Miami in 1999 for cocaine possession and in 1991 for stealing jewels from a Paris boutique by stuffing them down her thigh-length boots.

A 1996 conviction for cocaine and heroin possession in France was removed from the books so she could continue to work in the United States. She was also fined for assaulting a Paris meter maid in 2000.

She was previously married to Joey Starr, a French rapper with a police record for violence.
