French and Serbian police have broken up an arms smuggling ring in Paris and placed seven people in custody, a judicial source said Saturday.

A further 10 people were arrested in Serbia in a joint sting by French and Serbian police, who investigated the ring for several months.

Police intercepted a truck during a delivery in regional Paris on Thursday evening and discovered a large quantity of weapons, the judicial source said. The number of weapons seized was not known.

The seven people, who are mostly Serbs, were still in police custody on Saturday morning, accused of heading an arms trafficking ring and criminal conspiracy.
