French PM hails Greek leaders' 'excellent solution'
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon on Monday congratulated Greek political leaders, saying the formation of a government of national unity was "an excellent solution".
Greek leaders on Sunday agreed to form a unity government and appoint a new leader as the country teetered on the brink of bankruptcy and with the EU demanding clarity before unlocking any more bailout money.
"We obtained clarification of the situation, we couldn't stay waiting like that for week and weeks or months to implement the Greek bailout," Fillon said in answer to a question about Greece.
"Greece had to clarify its position very quickly, that's been done, I want to congratulate Greek political leaders," Fillon said.
"It's up to Greece itself to find the solutions and way out of the current situation. I understand that the Greek government proposed setting up a government of national unity.
"I think that's an excellent solution in the current context and we will help the Greeks in this direction."
