French Assembly approves delay in on-line ad tax

The French National Assembly on Wednesday approved a six-month delay to July 1, 2011 in the application of a tax on the purchase of on-line advertising.

The lower house of the French parliament approved a 2011 budget amendment presented by budget minister Francois Baroin that the government said "will allow time for negotiations with the various operators concerned."

The plan to add a 1.0 percent tax on purchases of on-line advertising space was approved on Monday by a joint committee of the National Assembly and the French Senate charged with drafting a common version of the legislation.
