French 78-year-old plumber shoots three dead in street
A 78-year-old French plumber shot dead two local council employees and a bystander before turning his rifle on himself and attempting to commit suicide Thursday, the local prosecutor said.
The man opened fire in the street in Rivesaltes, a winegrowing village in the Western Pyrenees region of southwest France, said Jean-Pierre Dreno, the chief public prosecutor in the nearby city of Perpignan.
"A 78-year-old plumber from Rivesaltes, apparently overcome by a murderous rage, opened fire on two municipal workers, who died, and a passer-by, whom he also killed," Dreno told AFP.
The old man managed to shoot and severely wound himself and has been taken to hospital in Perpignan. It was not immediately clear what had motivated his attack, the prosecutor said.
