French 12-month inflation slid to 2.0 percent in May, down from 2.1 percent in April, as energy costs eased for the first time in eight months, the national statistics agency INSEE said on Wednesday.

Prices were nearly stable month-on-month, rising just 0.1 percent following a 0.3 percent gain in April, with hikes in food prices cancelling out lower energy prices for consumers, INSEE added.
