France's Sarkozy ready to visit rebel-held Benghazi
French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Friday signalled his agreement "in principle" to visit rebel-held Benghazi and backed the transfer of frozen Libyan funds to the rebels, the presidency said.
Sarkozy accepted "in principle" an invitation from Libyan rebel president Mustafa Abdel Jalil, who met with him in Paris on Wednesday, but no dates or details of a visit had been fixed, his office said.
The French leader also said he was in favour of handing over frozen Libyan funds to the Transitional National Council.
France became the first country to recognise the TNC as a "legitimate representative" of the Libyan people on March 10 when Sarkozy received three of the council's representatives. Since then Qatar and Italy have followed suit.
