France's Sarkozy plans Turkey visit: report
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is planning to visit Turkey late this year or in early 2011, France's ambassador was quoted as saying Monday.
Sarkozy, a vocal opponent of the mainly Muslim country's bid to join the EU, will "pay a visit to Turkey at the end of this year or in the beginning of next year," Ambassador Bernard Emie said, according to Anatolia news agency.
The visit would give the two countries an opportunity to discuss "a common economic vision," he said, speaking at a gathering of a Turkish-French business association.
Sarkozy argues that Turkey does not belong to Europe, and, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, says the country should be given a special partnership status rather than full membership.
Ankara has blamed France for the slow progress in its accession negotiations with the bloc.
