French car maker Renault announced Monday a series of plant slowdowns later this month in the face of falling demand.

The company's plant in the northern city of Douai, where it makes the Scenic compact MPV, will close from October 26 to November 1, a company spokesman said. Other sites will close from October 29 to November 1.

France's other major car maker, PSA Peugeot Citroen, announced in September that some of its plants would face partial shutdowns in October.
