France's Lagarde to run for IMF even if probed

French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde said on Wednesday she will still apply to lead the IMF even if judges agree to investigate her over alleged conflicts of interest in a financial arbitration.

Judges are due to decide on June 10 whether they will agree to a prosecutor's demand that they investigate allegations that Lagarde exceeded her authority in handling a high-profile scandal involving tycoon Bernard Tapie.

"I have every confidence in this (judicial) procedure and I have a perfectly clear conscience" about the Tapie affair, Lagarde told reporters on Wednesday, adding that she would "maintain" her candidacy for the post regardless.
