France's FN hails 'good result' for beaten Austrian far-right candidate
France's far-right National Front (FN) offered its "warmest congratulations" Monday to the narrowly beaten far-right candidate in Austria's presidential election.
The FN described the 49.7 percent score registered by Norbert Hofer of Austria's far-right Freedom Party as a "good result".
"This historic performance is certainly the precursor of future success for all patriotic movements, both in Austria and around the world," it said in a statement.
After winning the first round vote comfortably, Hofer was beaten to the presidency by just a few thousand votes by his ecologist rival Alexander Van der Bellen.
