France wants immediate Libya action if UN approves: PM
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said France wants to see immediate military action if the UN Security Council adopts a resolution on Libya later Thursday.
"Of course," Fillon said when asked on French television if Paris wanted military action as soon as the resolution is passed in a vote set for 2200 GMT.
"It is France that has for the past several days been working towards getting this resoulution passed by the Security Council," Fillon said.
President Nicolas Sarkozy sent a letter Wednesday to all Security Council members to urge them to adopt the resolution, the prime minister added.
The resolution calls for "all necessary measures" to protect Libyan civilians as forces loyal to strongman Moamer Kadhafi close in on the rebels' eastern stronghold Benghazi.
