PARIS, May 23, 2007 (AFP) - The official photograph of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, designed to adorn the walls of every French school, town hall, police station and embassy, was released on Wednesday.

Shot in the library of the Elysee presidential palace, the picture shows the 52-year-old Sarkozy standing beside the French and -- for the first time -- European Union flags.

The portrait will be sent out to France's 36,600 towns to be put on display in all official buildings.

For the first time a magazine photographer, from the Sipa agency, was chosen to take the president's official picture.
