France to host next G8 summit in Nice
The next G8 summit will be held in the southeastern French seaside resort of Nice, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Saturday.
"The next G8 summit, which it will be an honor to host, will be held in Nice probably some time in the spring at a date which we will work out with our partners," Sarkozy said.
But amid a raging debate in Canada at the billion-dollar bill for the huge security operation launched for this week's Group of Eight gathering, Sarkozy offered assurances the cost to France "will be 10 times less."
France assumes the presidency of the G8 on January 1, 2011, and will take over the reins at the head of the Group of 20 after the next G20 summit in Seoul on November 12-13.
