PARIS, Oct 10 (AFP) - French foreign minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said he was "delighted" that a period of uncertainty in German politics had ended with Monday's agreement on the chancellorship of Angela Merkel.

"I am delighted that Germany is moving out of a period of uncertainty. France is Germany's closest partner, and there can be no European construction without perfect collaboration between France and Germany," Douste-Blazy told France-Inter radio.

The rival CDU and SPD parties in Germany earlier agreed that Merkel would lead a new coalition government.
