France is sending a plane carrying three tonnes of emergency medical aid to Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes have killed 200 people and forced tens of thousands from their homes, officials said Friday.

The plane will arrive in the Kyrgyz town of Osh early Saturday, a foreign ministry spokesman said, adding that France's financial aid to help ease the humanitarian crisis totalled one million euros (1.2 million dollars).

The World Health Organisation said Friday that it was working on a worst-case estimate that the crisis could affect up to one million people, 300,000 of whom could be refugees.
