France says to release frozen funds for Libya rebels
France will release 290 million euros ($420.9 million) of frozen Libyan funds for the benefit of the rebels' National Transitional Council, Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said Thursday.
"Aid of around 290 million euros... belongs to the central bank of Libya and we have recognised it as money belonging to the NTC," he told reporters at a meeting in Abu Dhabi of the International Contact Group on Libya.
The money is "destined for humanitarian ends. It is aimed to facilitate the living conditions in cities under the control of the NTC," he said.
"This money belongs to the Libyan people," he added.
