French military operations in Libya have been "effective" and have encountered "no particular difficulties", the defence ministry said Sunday.

"Yesterday's operation was effective (and encountered) no particular difficulties," ministry spokesman Laurent Teissere told the press, adding that on Sunday "our deployment has not met with any opposition".

French forces did not carry out any air strikes on Sunday because "where we are operating there was no threat against the civilian population," Teissere said.

"So far activities have been effective," he added.
