France salutes 'brilliant diplomat' Holbrooke
France on Tuesday paid tribute to the "brilliant diplomat" Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan who died overnight.
Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said in a statement that she saluted "the memory of this brilliant diplomat, untiring negotiator and fervent advocate for the role of the United Nations."
The minister in particular praised him for his key role in brokering the 1995 Dayton Agreement that was central to ending the war in Bosnia.
