France puts Pacific embassies on tsunami alsert

PARIS, March 28 (AFP) - The French foreign ministry announced Monday it had alerted its embassies and the main tour operators in the Pacific region about the possibility of tsunamis following the 8.7-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.

PARIS, March 28 (AFP) - The French foreign ministry announced Monday it had alerted its embassies and the main tour operators in the Pacific region about the possibility of tsunamis following the 8.7-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.

Spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattéi said diplomatic missions were liaising with governments in the region, particularly in Thailand, about security measures and the possible need for evacuation.
