PARIS, Sept 4 (AFP) - President Jacques Chirac wrote to Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Saturday to express "France's solidarity with the Russian people" and offer help after the bloodbath in North Ossetia, the French presidential palace said.

In his letter, Chirac said he had "learned with dismay and very great sadness" that at least 332 people, including 155 children, had lost their lives in "this horrifying act of terrorism".

France was "ready to respond to any request for assistance in terms of emergency medical aid," he said.

"We all share in the pain of the Russian people," Chirac added, expressing his "deep sympathy with the families of the victims and their loved ones."
