PARIS, Oct 26 (AFP) - The risk of a terrorist attack in France is real, President Jacques Chirac told a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, saying the French should remain on guard against a possible attack.

"The terrorist threat is real. We must remain fully mobilised," said Chirac, speaking as the cabinet examined a slew of draft anti-terrorism measures.

"We must keep adapting our systems to the evolving threat. We must be constantly anticipating" potential menaces, Chirac said.

Draft measures being put before the cabinet for approval on Wednesday include stepped-up video surveillance and police access to Internet and mobile telephone records.

Chirac said the new measures, submitted by Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, would give France "new tools to act" in the fight against terrorism.

France currently has its terrorist attack alert at "red", the third-highest level on a four-point scale. Its security forces adopted that level of vigilance after the July 7 bomb attacks on London's public transport network.
