France condemns Iraq suicide bombing
France on Friday "strongly" condemned a suicide bomb attack near Baghdad in which 35 Shiite pilgrims died.PARIS - "France strongly condemns the attack," and "reaffirms its support for Iraq in its national reconciliation," a foreign ministry statement said.
Most of the victims of the attack earlier Friday were women and children who had stopped to eat as they made their way to a religious ceremony.
The female suicide bomber blew herself up in a tent set up to feed the worshippers as they walked the 110-kilometre (70-mile) route south from the capital to the holy city of Karbala.
It was the deadliest attack in Iraq in nearly six weeks, since a suicide bomber, initially said to be a woman but later identified as a man, killed 35 people near a Shiite shrine in the Kadhimiyah district of Baghdad on January 4.
