France calls the tune at Dutch Concertgebouw

AMSTERDAM, March 11 (AFP) - The summer festival of the renowned Amsterdam Concertgebouw will have a French theme for its 17th edition, which will run from July 1 to August 31.

AMSTERDAM, March 11 (AFP) - The summer festival of the renowned Amsterdam Concertgebouw will have a French theme for its 17th edition, which will run from July 1 to August 31.

The French Capitole de Toulouse orchestra will be among the big names at the festival, performing Belioz's Symphonie Fantastique with Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden of the Hague's Residentie Orchestra.

In all the Concertgebouw, famed for its acoustics, will put on 87 concerts from classical and baroque to jazz, world music and even rap.

Ivan Fischer will conduct works by Brahms, Bernard Haitink will lead Mahler's Seventh and British conductor John Eliot Gradiner will tackle Ravel at the festival, whose website is www.robecozomerconcerten.nl.
