France Telecom group to bid for Cesky Telecom

PRAGUE, March 4 (AFP) - France Telecom, acting together with Blackstone Group, CVC Capital Partners and Providence Equity Partners, has won approval from authorities in the Czech Republic to bid for state-controlled Cesky Telecom AS.

PRAGUE, March 4 (AFP) - France Telecom, acting together with Blackstone Group, CVC Capital Partners and Providence Equity Partners, has won approval from authorities in the Czech Republic to bid for state-controlled Cesky Telecom AS.

The commission handling the sale of 51 percent of Cesky Telecom also confirmed that a consortium including Italian Internet-access provider Tiscali SpA, which had been interested in bidding for the company, has pulled out of the contest, according to the statement from the National Property Fund (FNM).

Czech Republic press reports have said other parties interested in Cesky include Telefonica SA, Belgacom SA and Swisscom AG.
