PARIS, June 21 (AFP) - The French telecommunications operator France Telecom and US equipment maker Motorola have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and deploy integrated wireless services, they said Monday in a statement.

Under the pact, the companies will set up joint research and development teams, share research funding and intellectual property resulting from the collaboration. No financial details were disclosed.

"This collaboration aims at developing and deploying new and innovative, integrated services, using a wide range of wireless access networks and technologies, for the home, office, car and on the move," the statement said.

"In today's market context, both companies are convinced of the need to develop new types of relationships between telecommunications operators and equipment vendors in order to cope with the challenges of increasing competition and the convergence of the telecom, IT and multimedia industries," it added.
