Four kidnappers killed in bid to save French hostages: MPs
French troops killed four kidnappers in their failed bid to rescue two Frenchmen captured by suspected Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Niger, lawmakers said Tuesday.
Two French lawmakers who on Monday attended a briefing on the hostage-taking by Prime Minister Francois Fillon said they had been told that "four terrorists" were killed.
Two others were captured after they were wounded and were being treated in the Niger capital Niamey, they said.
A Niger security source told AFP on Tuesday at least two suspected Al-Qaeda-linked militants were captured after the failed raid to free the hostages, who were later found dead.
The alleged members of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) are being questioned in the Niger capital, the source said, from where the Frenchmen were snatched on Friday. Their bodies were later found in the desert.
