Three people were killed and two were missing in Guadeloupe after their car was swept away by floods after three days of torrential rain on the French Caribbean island, officials said.

Flood waters swept away their four-wheel drive car when they tried to cross a submerged bridge over a flooded ravine near the town of Les Abymes, local deputy mayor Eric Jalton said.

Rescuers later found three bodies and were searching for two other people who were missing, said police official Jean Tibilan.
