Finding an EU crisis solution is key task for G20: Obama

US President Barack Obama said Thursday that the most important task facing G20 leaders meeting in Cannes was to find a solution for the European debt crisis.

"The most important aspect of our task is to resolve the financial crisis here in Europe," he said, after a bilateral meeting with summit host French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

He noted that the EU "has made some important steps towards a comprehensive solution," but "here the G20 will have to flesh out the details on how the plan will be fully and decisively implemented."

EU leaders thought they had put the Greek crisis debt to bed with a plan hammered out last week, but Athens' decision to put the package to a referendum has threatened to plunge the global economy back into renewed recession.
