European ministers to meet Sunday on Greece: Kouchner
European finance ministers will meet on Sunday in Brussels to discuss the Greek debt crisis, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Friday.
"On Sunday, there will be a meeting of Eurogroup finance ministers" to discuss the Greek financial crisis, Kouchner told a group of reporters during a visit to Shanghai.
Earlier, the finance chief for the 16 euro countries, Luxembourg Premier Jean-Claude Juncker, was quoted by his spokesman as saying he was "not ruling out" a weekend Eurogroup meeting.
Kouchner said French finance minister Christine Lagarde had held a conference call with her eurozone counterparts earlier in the day.
He also said that French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was wrapping up a state visit to China late Friday, would on Saturday chair a meeting of key ministers on the Greek crisis and how it had affected financial markets.
Greece, whose public deficit has risen to an estimated 13.6 percent of gross domestic product, is racing to secure new funding by a May 19 deadline to repay maturing debt or default.
A Greek government source said a deal would be announced by Sunday.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Friday in Beijing that he was confident that a deal would be made "in the next days."
